These days we're speaking with Chelsea Swanson, one of the first members in the newest HIV vaccine test.

How are you Chris?

Chris: I'm doing very very well, thank you.

David: So let's discuss HIV. Now, HIV, as you know, has been around for almost 30 decades now and for almost as lengthy we've been trying to find a vaccine to end the plague. So tell me why did you choose to be a aspect of the test and why now. Why is now the right time?

Chris: You know, like five, six decades ago, I didn't have any relationship to the condition really. Now it's absolutely in my team, it's engrained and, it's in my individual lifestyle, and in connections, and in buddies and I mean I had a buddy complete away on Saturday from the condition...

David: Wow

Chris:...and my last relationship was a magnetic relationship, you know, I was adverse and he was excellent and that's why it was a big supporter for me to be a aspect of the research. What really resonated was that arrived, I had the sensation of sensation that it was just... arrived. I mean when you're 20 and you're type of understanding who you are and arriving out and type of all over (laugh), it's really not something you think about. And then like I said when everything has type of over the last few decades really hit house and listening to the details it was just like okay, it is time. It's definitely a chance to type of develop and a chance to send.

David: You were discussing a little bit about how it's in your team, umm, you said it's around you and individuals are referring to it. But a lot of the research speaks about the complacency that a lot of young people has around HIV. And you are... 20 decades old?

Chris: 25

David: 25 decades of age. Those who are in your age team, do you find out that that complacency is there?

Chris: Very much so. I can keep in mind when I was in my last relationship that he had a buddy contact him and tell him that he was excellent. And I just keep in mind the type of soothing down of it's not a loss of lifestyle phrase, it's not the end around the globe. And having a lot of buddies in the mature group who were those activists and who were those individuals who were incredibly engaged who saw individuals die within a very, very brief quantity of time; having them discuss to my age team really type of resonated with me.

But then with my buddies lately, very acquaintances arriving and lastly acknowledging, you know, I've known for a season but I'm lastly relaxed to discuss it, and it really being the sensation of okay well I'm not going to die tomorrow; the type of sensation that it's controllable. Which I would usually consent with that it isn't a loss of lifestyle phrase but I think that that also can put a whirl on it not having such the effect that it is a issue. It's a condition that can take lifestyle and does.

David: It's a actual double-edged blade.

Chris: Completely.

David: What did you know about HIV vaccinations before actually you were in an HIV vaccine trial?

Chris: Nothing. I really... I really hadn't done a lot of research. I mean individually I was, for the last three decades, captured up with perform and university and internship and factors and so I really didn't get to get as engaged as I would have liked to. And so one of my individual objectives was as soon as I had that period, it was a objective of my own to get engaged and it just so occurred that within like monthly of graduating I observed about the research and that's when I approached and really got engaged and really type of put the basketball in movement, I think.

David: What were you anticipating before you actually came in for your first visit?

Chris: That's a excellent query. Genuinely, I didn't know what to anticipate. I think I'd performed over like 8000 circumstances in my go, but that was before I really had the details that they provide you with because the first registration classes you really are taken through Energy Factors and really type of umpteenth signatures to create sure you comprehend everything.

So there's never a sensation that I didn't get an response or I was remaining with a sensation of concern. It was always, "Do you have any concerns," you know, "Is there anything else we can describe to you," or "Do you comprehend this?" So that you really think you're being respected and it's not just like, "Okay, you're just, you know, a rat in a cage" type of factor. It's a very sincere, friendly, encounter. My objectives going into it were... I don't think I really had any. I honestly did not know what to anticipate because I had never attended a research before.
